Road to California Quilt Show

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Tomorrow will be a big day! I am heading up the road to Ontario, California! What is in ONTARIO, you ask? The big Road to California Quilt Show, of course! No, I am not teaching! WHOOPEEEE! I get to be “one of the girls” and attend a workshop with Melinda Bula.  Her work is lovely, and I am only taking a 1 day workshop to learn her technique.

The Ontario Convention Center is a big beautiful place with a view of the nearby San Gabriel Mountain range (on a clear day). We are predicted to have rain so it might be stormy. See you there!

January 15th   FOLLOW  UP!   The workshop with Melinda was relaxing and creative play time! I enjoyed the day away, and the quilts at the show were PHENOMENAL. The dense quilting was particularly amazing – I feel like an amateur compared with these master quilters! Click on both slideshows for a peek at Road to California, and Melinda’s work on YouTube.

Road to California

Wow! What a terrific show! I just returned from Road to California in Ontario (east of Los Angeles). My friend and fabulous machine quilter, Janet  Stuart and I entered our first quilt collaboration into the show, and we were awarded 3rd place!

The quilts at Road to California were spectacular! Janet and I were proud to be accepted, and humbled to receive an award from the judges. The award winners are listed on the Road to CA website.

Friends!

Working under a short-term deadline, the quilt was originally designed in 2006 to feature my Timeless Treasures Textural fabric line.  The large quilt’s appliqué took longer than expected, and was not displayed in the fabric booth at Market that year.

Cheri's Crystals boothMy favorite reasons to visit a quilt show:

  • Viewing spectacular quilts inspires me to take time and add special touches to my own quilts
  • Meeting friends – quilt shows are reunions between hundreds of quilters!
  • Shopping at the vendor booths – treat yourself to new gadgets, fabric, patterns and tools!
  • Watching demonstrations of new products.
  • Refreshing your imagination with new colors, patterns and ideas.

I had a great time with friends Cheri Meineke-Johnson and Janet Stuart as they worked in Cheri’s Crystals booth. Cheri sells beautiful Swarovski crystals that are applied with a special heat tool to fabric. Her award-winning quilts with quilter Linda V. Taylor are gorgeous!

APNQ – Association of Northwest Quilters – QuiltFest 2008

Friday, August 8th, 2008

What a great weekend in Seattle! I taught 3 classes for APNQ 2008 QuiltFest in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center. This was the first time the APNQ show offered workshops, and it was lovely to see the other instructors – I crossed paths with Anita Shackelford, Diane Gaudynski, Yvonne Porcella, and Jean Wells. I missed meeting other instructors Daphne Greig, Shar Jorgenson, and Rosalie Dace (from South Africa).

The convention center was a lovely facility! My dear friend Kathy Butler joined me, and we had a nice visit during the QuiltFest. I missed another friend, Charlotte Rogers but did visit with Jane Moxey, the producer of my new DVD. Here are some photos of the weekend in Seattle!

A highlight of the trip was visiting Pike Place Market! (Click on any photo to see it larger. Click the new photo once again to see it full size).  Kathy and I treated ourselves to a gigantic specialty dipped apple from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory – a Granny Smith with caramel, white chocolate, dark chocolate, peanutbutter & crushed nuts. We would cut off small slices and savor the wedges for dessert!
