Classroom setup for Jan's workshops

I am currently traveling with a small mini-camera, laptop and digital projector for presentation during workshops. A projection screen or clean white wall is required in the classroom (see list below). A projection table must be positioned about 6 -8 feet from this surface for projection during class. I can also postion the projector at the end of a standard banquet table, and teach from the same table. The setup can be somewhat flexible.

I require 1 hour setup time prior to the workshop and 1 hour dismantle time following the workshop. During this time, the program chairman is requested to set up student electrical cords, taping them to the floor, distribute trash bags and name tags, set up tables, assist by hanging my quilts for display and so on.

Instructional material will be presented to the students in a variety of methods:

Due to airline luggage weight restrictions, I request the sponsoring organization to provide tools and electrical setup for me, enabling me to bring MORE QUILTS in the limited luggage weight. I will ship some teaching equipment provided there is adequate time prior to your event.

If you cannot supply the items required for the workshop, please notify me right away. I can ship these items at an additional cost to your event.

Please print this page and use to coordinate setup of the classroom space in advance of the workshop. It is more up-to-date than the setup sheet in our contract. Thank you for your advance preparation! We'll have a very successful workshop!

  9. Projection screen on an open wall directly opposite the teaching table. A plain white wall will work. MINIMAL SIZE: 4' h x 6 ft wide for best visibility for students. Larger is better. 10. Small table positioned 6-8 feet in front of the screen or wall for the projector. Optional: if the room is large, the projector will also work positioned at one end of the teacher's table (a standard banquet table) provided that the table may be 6-8 feet from the wall.
  11. Stapler with extra staples (Spiral and Summer Salsa Lone Star workshops)
PROVIDE for the STUDENTS or request students to bring to class:

  1. Table space – 1 student per table preferable – 2 students maximum per standard 30" x 72" banquet table (not 18" x 72" narrow half tables!) Please do not crowd the classroom! It is better to have fewer students if the class room space is small. Consider holding the workshop in a larger facility if you plan to register 20 students for this workshop. (Remember there is an additional fee per student above the maximum number. )
  2. heavy duty 3-prong extension cords
  3. power strips
  4. duct tape for electrical cords (to secure to the floor & avoid tripping hazard)

  6. spray bottles with water
The room can be arranged with group-use cutting and ironing stations (which is more space-efficient)
  7. 1-2 quilt stands for classroom use. (Important! Most facilities do not allow pinning items to walls. The quilts will not be taped to the walls)
  8. Wide masking tape for adhering student design surfaces to the walls – check with facility for their permission!
  9. Paper or plastic trash bags at each station, taped to the edges of the tables.
  10. Name tags (with LARGE PRINT) for each student
