Lecture Overview & Setup Information
I will present both slides and quilts at a presentation / trunk show. If my travel weight is very limited, and I have no quilts with me (rare) then the presentation will be exclusively Powerpoint slides. I am now presenting digital images, which allows me more freedom to present new photos of quilts, techniques, and close-up photos of stitching details.
The slide presentation is informative, moves at a good pace, and includes personal stories, historic information about the quilts, with construction tips and hints. The 2nd portion of the presentation focuses on the quilts – with the aid of assistants to hold the quilts for the audience, and then display the quilts on stands provided by the event or guild. The conclusion of the program allows time for an informal Question and Answer session with the audience.
If your event is unable to dim the room for slide presentation, or you prefer that I present quilts exclusively, your group will be invoiced for additional luggage fees. This will allow me to pack adequate quilts and teaching materials for the workshops you have selected.
SET UP – PLEASE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
AT THE PODIUM:
- A microphone – clip or hand-held
- 4-6 people to be "holders & folders" during the program and assist in folding quilts following the trunk show.
- a glass or bottle of water
- Slide screen – minimum 6 ft wide or larger (a home sized projector screen is inadequate for a large group) OR a white wall without pictures, texture, nails, etc. will substitute for a slide screen
- projection stand (small table to hold the projector)
- projector – please notify Jan whether you have a digital projector and all accompanying cables.
- Projector details may be discussed prior to your event.
- I travel and teach with a digital projector and laptop computer. I may be able to use my equipment. Please contact me for further discussion of equipment.
- heavy-duty extension cord and multi-outlet power strip.
- 2–5 quilt stands ( I prefer to hang as many quilts as possible for viewing by your guild members )
- The quilt stands can be displayed on the stage or at the front of the room (one on either side of the slide screen) and additional stands to the right and left of the audience.
- We will display quilts as the audience enters the room, allowing them to view the quilts easily prior to the meeting.
- During the presentation, I will describe details and give information about the display quilts.
- After the slide presentation, the helpers will lower the quilts on the stands, remove them, and during the course of the trunk show, add new quilts to the stands for viewing following the program.
- 1 table for book and ruler sales with 2 chairs behind the table
- 1 person to assist selling books and patterns (they will receive a small gift for their help)
- 1–2 tables to hold quilts before the trunk show; aid in refolding quilts following the show.
