"Jan, Thanks so much for the great class! You are without a doubt one of the very best instructors (on any topic) that I have seen. Great and appropriate use of technology, wonderful personal touch and demonstrations, clear instructions (written, oral, visual), great pacing – all aspects of your class are top notch!  I'll take every class I can just to marvel at your instructional techniques in addition to the star quality of your quilting. "I took your Summer Salsa Lone Star class in 2002 (Quilt Camp in the Pines) in Flagstaff, AZ. I had stuck it away knowing it was so special that everything had to be just right to finish it. All the "pieces" were finished except the 4-corners. Recently, had some major (elective) surgery that kept me home feeling sorry for myself. What a mood booster it was to bring "Salsa" out and start putting it together. Your instructions were so complete that it came together perfectly!! Tomorrow I'll mail it off to my wonderful quilter. I plan to do some thread work/beading when I get it back from her. I just wanted to thank you for you excellent class."

"I just wanted to say I was so inspired from your Lonestar book that I made one for each of my wedding party (4 total). I used different fabrics for each that reflected the individual's taste and all 4 turned out beautiful. Everyone was thrilled and amazed (and so was I). Thanks again, for you wonderful books and beautiful quilts."

"Jan, I had such a great time in your Spiral Lone Star 2-day class in Sarasota, FL. That project is still sitting in its pizza box, but I started working on another one the following week. The result is the picture attached. After 32 diamonds, I have to say I had that technique pretty much down pat!

I have been extolling your praises everywhere (including on the show label). The judge praised my piecing skills (not something anyone has ever done before!). So I had to show you the results of your fabulous teaching. Thanks! "

"I am taking a break from designing the compass blocks for my Spiral Lone Star Quilt, so I thought I would send you a note to thank you so much for the great class. I honestly can say I felt it was the best quilting class I have had (and I have taken many). Not only did I learn the basics of making the Lone Star but all of your suggestions, helpful hints, and additional instructions have given me a confidence to venture out and try some of my own ideas and variations instead of step by step following a pattern. This is something I never had before. Thanks for a really fantastic class.

P.S.  I am sending in my vote for you as 2004 Quilt Teacher of the Year. "  – Stephanie Bullock

"I finished my quilt from your class at the Gathering in Nashua, NH in November 2005.  I was truly excited about this quilt and couldn’t put it out of my mind until I finished it.  First, it was your pre-class exercise of testing the fabrics in miniature trapezoids.  I carried around my finished mock up for a week admiring it.  Then I learned how to cut and sew with accuracy.

Finally – your class gave me the confidence that all the pieces of this puzzle would go fit together and my middle would be perfectly flat.  It was also my first attempt at free motion quilting without a pattern.  What fun!  The results are stunning.  This is the best work I have ever done. Thank you!

The camera you used in class to project each step on an overhead screen made it easy to see and speed along instruction. I spent more time sewing and less time craning over others to see.  Your step-by-step instructions covered every detail including tips and illustrations.  It was obvious that you had written your instructions after much trial and error. It really helped to have them when I got home.

Initially I had trouble making perfect inset seams.  I ended up basting them by hand first and examining where the seams met to see if I was satisfied before I stitched by machine. I would be thrilled if you posted my picture and please feel free to use both email text to compose a testimonial. I highly recommend your class to quilters who want a challenge and want to move to the next level of quilting! "I was in your Summer Salsa class at the Lake Farmpark in Ohio, February 2006. I really enjoyed the class, and even though I have had very little time for quilting, I have completed the 16 large diamonds, and now I have to work on the setting blocks and corners. Thanks!"
